In light of everything that happened in Aurora, Colorado last week, I thought I’d share the little warmth I found last night in the picture below of Christian Bale visiting one of the victims of last week’s horrific shooting, along with a link to Christopher Nolan’s sweet farewell note to Gotham City. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims and their families, and it’s great to see Bale truly taking his role as the Caped Crusader beyond the screen.
Writer, filmmaker and creator of the rom-com blueprint Nora Ephron passed away Tuesday night at the age of 71. You can read a great piece about Ephron’s life over at The New York Times, and I’ll continue to assemble a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils for her.
Happy Thursday everyone! It is pouring where I am, so I couldn’t think of anything better than devouring some throwbacks…
Movie: Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
I will admit that I am THE self-proclaimed mockumentary enthusiasts (cut to why my blog is a reference to The Office, maybe one of the best mockumentaries of all time), so it should come as no surprise that one of my go-to comedies is Drop Dead Gorgeous. Set in Mount Rose, Minn., the film follows a group of girls involved in a high school beauty pageant where the contestants seem to drop dead (hence, the title). And if you’re like me, you just read that and immediately thought of the accents in Fargo. This movie is just as good in that respect, except an extra serving of ridiculous puns. The film also boasts a huge cast, including Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, Amy Adams, the late Brittany Murphy, Kristie Alley, Ellen Barkin and scene-stealer Alison Janney. Watch it if you haven’t and tell me you won’t run around asking, ‘Are we on cops again?’ (Side note: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Kirsten Dunst: GO BACK TO COMEDIES! Dick? Drop Dead Gorgeous? At least try another that begins with d, ‘D’…)
Song: ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love,’ Permission to Land by The Darkness (2003)
Can you ever possibly feel cooler than when you’re rocking out to an 80s hair band? This is what The Darkness’ ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ reminds me of, and I can’t help but bust out my horribly inaccurate air guitar moves while belting out every falsetto. I still can’t believe they rounded out the decade as a one-hit wonder, but here’s to hoping that we will hear from them again sometime soon.

This may not technically be a ‘throwback’ as of yet, but I found it today and could not stop laughing.
You can check out Baz Luhrmann’s take on the Fitzgerald classic below, which is overflowing with Leo and the director’s signature ‘nothing-says-unrequited-love-quite-like-tons-of-fireworks’ mood lighting.
Although I would love to wish everyone a Happy Monday, I find myself still wiping some tears after Kristen Wiig’s farewell early Sunday morning. If you haven’t seen it yet, follow the link (and bring a box of tissues, or at least keep a tab open of Stefon for an immediate pick-me-up). Now onto some headlines…
Wildly inappropriate humor with a dash of Donald Glover? Season Two of Girls looks like it’s addressing the ‘diversity’ issue in a totally awesome way.
And finally, check out a mash up of Batman: The Animated Series clips to–what else–the latest Dark Knight Rises trailer.
Hello fellow bloggers! The chaotic weather in South Florida this afternoon was not kind to my internet connection and delayed today’s post so I’ll keep this one short and sweet.
Happy Monday everyone! I’m reworking the format of some posts so that I can get things to you faster. Let me know what you think, but as for this weekend’s headlines…
– Men’s Health named Jennifer Aniston the hottest woman of all time (eat your heart out, Angelina Jolie). Personally? I’m so happy that Jessica Biel was nowhere to be found on this list. Sorry fellas, but I just don’t get that one.
