So Long Eddie Murphy, Time to Start my Downey 2012 Campaign!
Guess it was too hot in the Oscar hot tub. With all of the scandal surrounding Brett Ratner’s exit as a producer for the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony after an anti-gay slur, Eddie Murphy has shown his (odd?) allegiance to Ratner and decided to step down as the host. Although I was really looking forward to Murphy, can I start my petition now to get Robert Downey Jr. as a host? I know names like Billy Crystal and Hugh Jackman will be thrown around (and I’m not arguing that they wouldn’t do a good job), but the Oscars needs to spice things up. They’ve recently either been way too safe with the sing-songy choices (a la Jackman), or trying way too hard (a la the Franco and Hathaway disaster). I think Downey would appeal to a wide variety of audiences but also bring a little edge to the table, which is a PR move the Academy needs. Who’s with me?!
